Crews had been out Monday morning engaged on the destruction of the constructing that has stood in New Bern since 1951.
The constructing is the birthplace of the Sudan Shriners, a philanthropic group supporting the Shriners Hospitals for Kids.
In 2018, Hurricane Florence ravaged the constructing and compelled its closure. Final 12 months, county commissioners voted to tear it down and switch it right into a car parking zone.
The constructing will likely be demolished, and the car parking zone will likely be accomplished in 2027.
