For Eastern NC residents who regularly make the commute west toward Raleigh for work, a disturbing incident on Thursday morning serves as a sobering reminder that danger can strike without warning — even on a routine drive to the job site. Raleigh police are actively investigating a knife attack that occurred inside a vehicle on Poole Road near South New Hope Road, and the suspect remains at large as of this report.
What Happened on Poole Road
According to Raleigh police, four men were traveling together in a single car, heading to a shared worksite early Thursday morning. Somewhere along the route, a verbal argument broke out between a backseat passenger and the man seated in the front passenger seat.
The confrontation quickly escalated. Police say the backseat passenger produced a knife and struck the front seat passenger in the back. The driver, acting quickly, brought the vehicle to a stop. The suspect then fled the scene on foot.
The remaining three men — including the driver and the victim — stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators. WRAL’s Breaking News Tracker arrived as emergency responders were on site and observed the men speaking with officers.
Victim’s Condition and Ongoing Investigation
Authorities say the victim sustained minor injuries from the knife attack and was treated at the scene by EMS. He did not require transport to a hospital. Officers are continuing their search for the suspect, who has not yet been identified publicly as of this reporting.
