Advertise With UsCurtis grew up in Roanoke, VA and attended Andrew Lewis Excessive College in Salem, VA the place he joined the Marine Reserve in tenth grade. As soon as college was out, Curtis started working for J.F. Barber Building for 3 summers.
In 1957, Curtis proudly joined the US Marine Corps as a Seargeant at Cherry Level, NC as a jet mechanic, and later earned a bachelor’s diploma in Airport Administration in 1977. Whereas Curtis spent most of his time at Cherry Level, he did spend three years in Norfolk, VA and about seven years in excursions of responsibility to Japan, Vietnam, Okinawa, and the Philippines. As a jet mechanic, the Aircrafts that Curtis labored on have been F10, A4, F4, and A6. After serving 30 years within the USMC, Curtis retired as a Captain. Following his time within the navy, Curtis started working at First Flight Federal Credit score Union, the place he stayed working for 15 years.
Throughout Curtis’ time within the USMC, he continued his training via a number of navy faculties for Jet Mechanic- Memphis, TN, Embarkation College- Little Creek, VA and Okinawa, AVN provide college Camp Jonson, NC. As well as, Curtis prolonged his studying by attending East Carolina College, Craven Neighborhood Faculty, Los Angeles Neighborhood Faculty (affiliate’s diploma), USAFI, and Southern Illinois College (bachelor’s diploma).

He was an energetic member of the Lions Membership Worldwide because the Membership President, District Governor, NC Lions Basis President 1993-1994, District Governor, Promotion Chairman 1972-1973, and took delegation to Tiawan for Lion’s Worldwide Conference. In 1972, Curtis was honored by Navy Affairs Committee (MAC) for his achievements. He was the second navy household of the quarter for New Bern.
Curtis continued to function a member of the Havelock Board of Adjustment for six years; Commissioner of the Metropolis of Havelock for 9 years (1991-2000); and Board member of the Craven County Airport Authority for 20 years (Chairman) overseeing rebuilding the New Bern airport because it exists as we speak.
Curtis and Susie have been members of First United Methodist Church of Havelock over 60 years. Throughout his time, he served on a number of boards and committees. The Habitat for Humanity hosts an annual golf match, which was began by Curtis. They raised sufficient cash to construct over 30 properties for the Havelock neighborhood.
Curtis and Susie loved spending time with their household and associates. In 1999, Curtis was within the Havelock Christmas Parade because the Grand Marshall with Susie, and so they had one of the best time sharing many laughs and making memoires. All who knew Curtis, loved his loopy jokes, laughs, and better of all, love. He shall be enormously missed by all who beloved him dearly.
Abandoning to honor and cherish Curtis’ life and legacy are his loving spouse of 68 years, Susie Naked; youngsters, Vickie Barding (Tim), Cindy Schauer (Bob), and Curtis “Jack” Naked Jr. (Helen); grandchildren, Kenny Barding, Patrick Barding (Terri), Erica Barding, Christina Martin (Issac), Joey Schauer, Curtis “CJ” Naked III, Matthew Naked (Megan); great-grandchildren, Ashlynn Kate, Lula Claire, Bailey Ann, Mabry Lynn, Maelynn Louise, Avery Grace, Miles Efland, and Julian; and lots of loving members of the family and shut associates.
Curtis is preceded in demise by his brothers and sisters.
The household will obtain guests from 10:00-11:00 am on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at First Methodist Church in Havelock. A funeral service will start at 11:00 am with full navy honors following the service. Later within the day, Curtis shall be laid to relaxation at Greenleaf Memorial Park. The service shall be reside streamed on the church’s YouTube and Fb pages.
